NICOLE WEIR: MY MAGICAL 2024 RACING SEASON

This year’s Absa Cape Epic kicked off my season with a 4th place finish in the Master’s category. Building on this momentum, I secured a win at the Swartberg World Gravel Series event in April, taking the top ladies spot in the Swartberg Medio.

In May, I placed 10th overall (including Elites) at the Race to the Sun which doubled as the SA National Gravel Championships and I won the Masters 50-55 category.

These results qualified me for the UCI World Gravel Championships in Belgium in October, where I finished 13th overall in my age category 50-55 years. This was after overcoming a rather hard crash. I’m grateful that I was able to get back on my Specialized Diverge with no scratches or damage to the bike only to the body.

The experience was incredible, and I was inspired by the strength and speed of women over 50 from around the world. It’s clear that age is just a number!

I’m already looking forward to the 2025 gravel series of races and the inaugural Gravel Burn event next year.

Thanks for the support and training rides with the LCC gravel group. The tips and tricks learned during these training rides were very valuable and contributed a great deal to me achieving some good results this season. I hope to see you all on the trails soon!
