The second of our LCC Weekends Away at Summerplace Game Reserve was held in early August. The dry winter allowed for the trails to return to their normal conditions after a very wet summer and autumn. Here’s a short summary of the weekend away.
Although the second Summerplace Game Reserve Weekend Away was a very small and intimate event, the riding was by no means small and everyone got intimate with the great riding (and walking) trails.
There are enough gravel roads to keep you busy and challenged (elevation as opposed to technical) for hours as well as the really great ‘Novice rated Pink Trail.
For the seasoned trail rider, we did close on 100km of solid technical trail riding (four rides) and those who stayed the extra night – which is always a good option to miss the Sunday afternoon traffic – did more than 125km over six rides without doing one trial more than once. And there were some trails we didn’t ride.
Catering options were, as always, either self-catering or catered and, whichever you chose, the food was great!
Trails had dried out a lot since our June visit but, surprisingly, there were still patches of water bits of squishy trails. But the trails rode smoothly and fast and Dave Baber and his team had done a lot to repair them after the late rain damage.
Some riders explored on their own, others in groups, but every ride (and walk) was fun and life-improving.
