In June, our road group teamed up with Prohibition for one of our favourite rides on the calendar – a trip to Hartbeespoort Dam.

It was a chilly start to the morning, with everyone wrapped up in plenty of layers to brave the winter temperatures. Thankfully, our club-sponsored support vehicle was on hand, and as the day warmed up, riders were able to shed those extra layers and stash them safely in the car.

The route to Harties includes a long climb that tested the legs before opening onto a fast, undulating section of road. About halfway through the ride, we stopped at a petrol station for a quick coffee and to refill our water bottles before continuing towards the dam.

No Harties ride would be complete without the traditional group photo on the dam wall, a favourite stop that has become part of the experience.

The return journey offered a few more challenging climbs, but everyone rode well and made it back safely. As always, it was a fantastic morning on the bike, filled with great company, plenty of laughs, and beautiful scenery. It’s easy to see why the Harties ride remains one of the road group’s favourite outings.
