Twelve riders headed out to Tranquilitas Farm over the weekend of 17-19 April 2026. Expecting some great trail riding and sublime flow-lines down the mountain, we were not disappointed.  

Friday afternoon was a quick trail reconnoitre and bike check, for those who were on-site early enough. Soon, the braai fire was lit, great sides prepared in the very well equipped kitchen and then a leisurely braai and lekker ‘kuier’ around the fire with chatter about the following day’s flow-line shuttle. Then it was  off to wonderfully comfortable and warm beds.

Saturday morning started with great coffee from the bean-cup machine and simple fare breakfast. Then off to the loading bay (with some krazees choosing to ride up the mountain!). Most of the group spent the ‘commute’ with lively banter as we drove higher and higher up the mountain.

Then came the flights – down well-crafted flow-lines with names like Gobstopper, Gumdrop and Fireball and, apart from a few tyre flats, everyone arriving at the bottom with smiles wider than the valley before us. 

Saturday afternoon’s ride was a chilled sundowner affair with drinks on the rim of the spectacular gorge followed by a braai and more (albeit slightly more tired) chatter.

Sunday morning was perfect riding weather for some good mountain trail riding and the routes and scenery didn’t disappoint.  And once back at the house it was brunch and time to pack up before heading back home after a great weekend of riding. And even though the ‘Grim Reaper’ made a cameo appearance, he had no work to do – except, that is, on John’s back tyre.

Looking forward to the next Club Weekend at Karkloof. But we will definitely be back at Tranquilitas in 2027.
